- 76% preferred reading (paper) books
- 28% read every day and 38% read 2 to 3 times a week
- 95% read everyday to their child
Some of the additional comments were:
Enjoying listening to audio stories, trying to find more time in the day to read, having more authors visit, book fairs and book swaps, ideas to encourage reading in the day for pleasure and more variety of books sent home from school.
If you are looking for the latest book recommendations for different age groups, go to www.booksfortopics.com which covers all genres and ages.
Handwriting
We have been having a big focus on handwriting this academic year and we have put together the 'Ready to write four Ps'. When practising letter formation at home, this is a great checklist before you start writing. These will be reinforced in our handwriting lessons at school. We are also focusing on the letter families and formation phrase, which you can find a copy of by clicking here.
Oracy Homework Conversation Starters
This week the oracy task to discuss is:
If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?
Use these sentence starters to help:
- I would eat... because....
- I think...
- In my opinion...
Encourage your child to turn and face you to talk and use a clear voice when talking. A fun way to help with turn taking when talking, is to have an object that you hold and you can only talk when you have the object in your hand.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us last Saturday
for the Big Outdoor Clean-Up! It was fantastic to see so many of you getting stuck in and having fun while working so hard.
On a related note, with many of us getting back into our gardens, please hand in any receipts from Woods of Berkhamsted to the school office. We can turn these into vouchers for the school - every little helps!
We’re really looking forward to seeing lots of you at our Bingo Night this evening… dabbers at the ready!
Two little helpers hard at work!
Events for the rest of the term:
Big Allotment Clean Up – Sunday 22nd March (10am–2pm)
It promises to be a beautiful sunny day, so if you can, please come along and help us get the school allotment ready for the growing season ahead. Come along for the morning or just drop in if you have some time to spare. If you’d like to be involved with the allotment longer-term (not just on Sunday), please join the WhatsApp group using the link shared by your class rep.
