KAPLA Workshop
We had so much fun with our KAPLA workshop on Wednesday, where all the children got to build different things as a class. It was lovely to share with the parents and even the demolishing of the build was exciting (if a little sad after all that hard work). All the children were brilliant at listening to the instructions and everyone was so impressed with what they made. We have bought some KAPLA for all the year groups and they continued to build today, having been so inspired by the workshop.
YR1 Trip to Tiggywinkles
The YR1 children had a great day learning about the local wildlife at Tiggywinkles in Haddenham.
Quote from Malea 'I loved it because I saw a pole cat, red kite and lots of hedgehogs.'
Phonic Screening Check (PSC)
All the YR1 and any YR2 children (who got not met/were absent) will be completing the PSC WC 8 June. The children will be asked to read 40 words using their phonic decoding skills. During the coming weeks, YR1 children will be exploring how to read alien words using their sounds. This will give them the skills to support them to read the alien 'made up' words. For more details click here for the Little Wandle handout for parents and carers.
In previous years, children are expected to read 32 out of the 40 words correctly to pass the check. The PSC is administered 1 to 1, there is no time limit and movement breaks or longer breaks will be offered, if a child needs them. The children see the activity as a fun game of trying to work out the alien names and to show their phonic skills.
Oracy Homework Conversation Starters
This week the oracy task to discuss is:
What is your ideal way to spend a Saturday?
Use these sentence starters to help:
- On a Saturday I would like to...
- I think...
- The ideal way to spend a Saturday...
- In my opinion...
Encourage your child to turn and face you to talk and use a clear voice when talking. A fun way to help with turn taking when talking, is to have an object that you hold and you can only talk when you have the object in your hand.
