An Inspector Calls-an update from our Ofsted Visit
We were delighted to welcome Ofsted to our school this week and are incredibly proud of everyone during the inspection. The staff got to showcase the high-quality teaching and support they give to the children in class and around the school. While the children were the real highlight of the visit; they spoke confidently and enthusiastically about their learning, demonstrating a strong understanding of the curriculum and the progress they have made. They also clearly articulated our behaviour expectations and could explain how these support a positive and respectful environment for all. At one stage the Nursery children had got an inspector acting out the story of the Three Little Pigs! While the Reception children took them around the provision to share their giant trap and potions from their work on Jack and the Beanstalk.
Thank you to all the parents who filled in the survey, there was lots of positive feedback. The staff would also like to thank the thoughtful donations of goodies for the staffroom which were gratefully received.
We will share the full report with you after half term, as soon as we have received it from Ofsted. Overall it was a much better experience for everyone and we were excited to share with the inspectors, all the rapid improvements and their impact, since the last report.
Fundraiser for the Hospice of St Francis-Friday 22 May
Our Kindness Ambassadors would like to hold a PJ and Bed Head Day on Friday 22 May. They invited the 'Saharan Stars' to talk about their trek and the money they are hoping to raise. Everyone is welcome to take part, wearing their PJs and sharing their best 'bed head' look. If you wish to donate click here and reference Victoria School in your donation. See below for details about the trek.
Hi, we are the "Saharan Stars" team - Amy, Sue and Lisa. We all work at the Hospice of St Francis. Next November, we will be taking on an epic 50k Saharan trek to raise vital funds for this very special charity.
Our care is free but less than 20% of our funding comes from the NHS. We rely on the generosity of our community to raise the £6m per year it takes to provide expert, compassionate care when it is needed most.
At the Hospice, we care for patients and their families in many ways - specialist care at the Hospice, in our Spring Centre or at home. Every contribution on this page brings us one step closer to our stellar team fundraising target. Thank you for making a difference — and for cheering us on!
Mead Open Farm- Reception Trip
The Reception children had a fantastic time with the animals at the farm on Thursday. They behaved brilliantly, showing our school values of kindness and respect. The children even got to have a play in the soft play area but looking at the photos, I am not sure if the teachers were having a little bit more fun than the children!
Petertide Fair at St Peter's Church-Sunday 28 June 12:30pm to 3:30pm
Everyone’s invited to enjoy a fun-filled family fête in the churchyard of St Peter’s Berkhamsted, with afternoon entertainments, games, stalls, food and drink. There’ll be a BBQ, drinks in the sun, stalls and miniature train rides. Children can bring a cuddly toy to ride the daring Teddy Zip Wire from the bell tower. Entry is free, and all proceeds go to the St Peter’s Renovation Appeal, to fix the leaking church roof.
Oracy Homework Conversation Starters
This week the oracy task to discuss is:
If you could talk to your pet, what would you say?
Use these sentence starters to help:
- I would say...
- I would tell them about...
- The conversation I would have with my pet would be...
- I might ask...
Encourage your child to turn and face you to talk and use a clear voice when talking. A fun way to help with turn taking when talking, is to have an object that you hold and you can only talk when you have the object in your hand.
VSA UpdateGood luck to everyone who managed to snap up a Eurovision sweepstake ticket this morning — may your chosen act bring glory, glitter and maximum points.
A huge thank you to everyone who baked, bought and supported the cake and drinks sale at last week's 'Booknic'. You helped raise over £150, which will go towards some brilliant new books for our school library. Thank you!
