The Equality Act became law in 2010 to protect everyone in Britain from discrimination, harassment and victimisation due to the protected characteristics we all have. Under the Equality Act, it is against the law to discriminate against anyone because of the 9 protected characteristics, as follows:-

- Disability
- Sex
- Gender reassignment
- Race
- Religion or Belief
- Sexual orientation
- Marriage and civil partnership
- Pregnancy and maternity
The Equality Act protects you from discrimination:
- At work
- In education
- As a consumer
- When using public services
- When buying or renting property
- As a member or guest of a private club or association
The 9 Protected Characteristics are actively promoted in, an age appropriate way, through:
- Our school ethos statements, SIP, and SEF
- Our school core values – Kindness Resilience Respect and Thankfulness
- Our school behaviour policy
- Conscious role modelling by all adults in the school community and visitors
- Active engagement and communication with parents and carers
- Collective Worship
- Discussion within curriculum subjects, taking across-curricular approach
- Promoting articulation by building appropriate language and a coherent vocabulary
- Personal, Social, Health and Economic education (PSHE) lessons
- Relationships and Health Education
- Religious Education (RE) lessons
- Pupil Voice
- Educational visits and enrichment
- Spiritual Ambassadors and School Council
- Extra-curricular activities, after-school clubs, charity work and work within the local community
