Personal Development at Victoria
At Victoria we are proud to support all children to develop social awareness, strength of character, respect of themselves, the environment and others, and the resilience and ambition to engage in their learning .
Our vision underpins everything we do:
We want our children to be kind, resilient, respectful and thankful in line with our Federation values.
As a Church Federation we use the Church of England's Anti-Bullying guidance:
“Every child deserves to learn in an environment where they are loved, supported, and respected.”
Bishop Jonathan Frost
Personal Development is interwoven through all we do. Through every interaction, every lesson, every event and every collective worship. Our primary aim is to prepare children for the wider world so that they can have a strong moral compass, a sense of purpose and belonging, and so that they have the confidence to make their voices heard.
The following areas are structured to support our pupils’ personal development:
- Personal Social Health and Economic curriculum (PSHE)
- Relationships and Sex Education (RSE)
- Collective Worship
- Protected characteristics
- Social Moral, Spiritual and Cultural development (SMSC)
- Extra-Curricular activities and curriculum enrichment
- British Values
- Forest School - our Y2 pupils take part in a Forest School programme. This is a wonderful opportunity to develop their team building skills, problem solve and reconnect with nature. This is run at our Junior School, Thomas Coram.
We are committed to providing a purposeful and empowering curriculum that fully prepares learners for the next steps in their school career and the wider world. We want our children to aspire to achieve and believe that it is essential that they understand the world in which they live. Broadening our children’s horizons and giving them the belief that they are capable of achieving great things drives our curriculum.
Today’s children and young people are growing up in an increasingly complex world and living their lives seamlessly on and offline. This presents many positive and exciting opportunities but also includes challenges and risks. In this environment, children and young people need to know how to be safe and healthy, and how to manage their academic, personal and social lives in a positive way. Our aim is to develop skills and attributes such as perseverance, self-esteem, risk-management, confidence, team-working and critical thinking.
Personal, Social, Health Education is taught across our year groups. Please see our curriculum here.
